Removal
There are for all intents and purposes two kinds of hair
removal treatments. Permament treatments seek to
eliminate unwanted hair so that it will not regrow. Sometimes
these procedures can be semi-permanent and need to be repeated
over time. Non permanent hair removal techniques work for for a
limited time and are subject to the body's normal hair growth
cycle.
Many females approach hair removal as a
component of their normal makeup routine. Females shave
their underarms and legs, shape their eyebrows, and have
their pubic hairs groomed or removed to fit today's
designer fashions. Some men also shave some areas for
cosmetic effect, and virtually all men shave their facial
hair unless they are by choice growing it out as a beard,
goatee, or moustache. Then there are medical reasons for
getting rid of hair and just plain old 'because I felt
like it' reasons too.
Electrolysis treats every hair follicle one by one by
injecting a needle into the hair follicle and administering an
electric charge. This process can spread over months depending
upon the size of the area undergoing treatment. This is a
relatively painful process, and there can be side effects that
can include infection and scarring occasionally. Expenses can
be as high as $1,000 to $3,000 for the legs or pubic area.
Laser hair removal of
unwanted hair is an FDA approved procedure which should only be
performed by a certified and licensed professional. When you
are undergoing this procedure, a focused laser beam is employed
to eliminate the hair follicles. This is a relatively painless
procedure that is most effective on people who have a fair
complexion and a dark colored hair. People with a deep tan
should not consider this procedure. Expect an outlay of about
$1,000 for the removal of facial hair, and a range from $2,000
to $3,000 for hair removal from the legs and pubic area.
A more advanced laser treatment, this FDA approved Pulsed
Laser procedure uses a pulsed light beam to eradicate the hair
follicles. This process is extremely effective for removing
hair from the more sensitive underarms and the groin or bikini
area. The benefit of this method is that there are no
restrictions regarding skin color, tanning, or hair color.
Costs range from $500 to $2,000 and up, depending upon the
treatment area.
Temporary hair removal techniques include a multitude of
hair removal creams, shaving, pulling, waxing, and more
unorthodox routines. What a dichotomy. While millions of people
are committing billions of dollars to grow new hair, make it
shiny and soft, or have it cut that special way, the rest of us
are spending our dollars trying to get rid of it!
