If you have hair growth afflictions like hypertrichosis or hirsutism, or hair is just growing in places that take away from your appearance, there are many very effective hair removal selections available today. There are basically two kinds of hair removal processes.

'Permament' routines look to eliminate unwanted hair for good. Sometimes these techniques can be semi-permanent and need to be repeated once more. Temporary hair removal techniques work for short periods of time and are subject to the body's normal rate of hair growth.

hair removal cream on tv Many females deal with hair removal as a component of their normal makeup routine. Women shave their armpits and legs, form their eyebrows, and have pubic hair trimmed or taken off to fit today's fashions. Men on occasion also shave their body hair for cosmetic reasons, and virtually all males shave their faces and necks unless they are intentionally growing a full beard, goatee, or moustache. And do not forget that there are medical reasons for removing hair and just plain old 'because I felt like it' reasons as well.

Electrolysis is a standard treatment that treats each hair follicle on an individual basis by inserting a needle into the hair follicle and subjecting it to an electric charge. This treatment can spread over months depending upon the location and size of the area being treated. This is a relatively painful process, and side effects can include the possibility of scaring and infection. Costs can run as high as $1,000 to $3,000 for the pubic area or legs.

Laser removal of unwanted hair is an FDA approved process that is best performed by a licensed and trained practitioner. When you are undergoing this procedure, a concentrated laser beam is utilized to get rid of the hair follicles. The treatment is a relatively painless procedure that is most effective on people with a light complexion and a dark colored hair. Deeply tanned individuals should not use this treatment. Expenses are about $1,000 for the removal of hair around the face area, and a range from $2,000 to $3,000 for hair removal from the pubic area or legs.

Similar to the Laser treatment above, this FDA approved Pulsed Laser procedure utilizes a pulsed light beam to eliminate the hair follicles. This newer procedure is highly effective for removing hair from the more sensitive underarms and the bikini zone. The benefit of this method is that there are no restrictions regarding skin tone, tanning, or color of hair. Costs range from $500 to $2,000 and up, based upon which area of the body is treated.

Temporary removal of unwanted hair methods include a multitude of hair removal creams, shaving, pulling, waxing, and more unique treatments. What a dichotomy. While it seems like half the adults are committing billions of dollars to foster new hair, make it soft and managable, or have it cut just right, the remainder of us are laying out our bucks seeking to get rid of it!

'Remember the generational battles twenty years ago? Remember all the screaming at the dinner table about haircuts, getting jobs and the American dream? Well, our parents won. They're out living the American dream on some damned golf course in Vero Beach, and we're stuck with the jobs and haircuts.' P. J. O'Rourke (1947 - )
