'Permament' procedures seek to remove unwanted hair
permanently. Sometimes these techniques turn out to be
semi-permanent and require the process to be repeated over a
period of time. Non permanent hair removal procedures
work for for a short period of time and are dependent on the
body's metabolic rate and resulting hair growth rate.
Most women treat hair removal as part of
their normal cosmetic routine. Females shave their legs
and armpits, form their eyebrows, and have their pubic
hairs groomed or removed to accommodate today's designer
fashions. Men on occasion also shave some of their more
hairy locations for cosmetic puposes, and most men shave
their faces unless they are deliberately growing it out as
a beard, goatee, or moustache. Then there are always
medical reasons for removing hair and the not uncommon
'because' reasons too.
Electrolysis has been a very popular method and treats each
hair follicle one by one by injecting a needle into the
follicle of the hair and applying an electric charge. This
procedure can be lengthy depending upon the dimension of the
area undergoing treatment. This is a relatively painful
process, and there can be side effects that can include scaring
and infection. Costs can run as high as $1,000 to $3,000 for
the pubic area or legs.
Laser removal of unwanted hair is an FDA approved treatment
which should only be performed by a licensed and trained
medical professional. Though this process is somewhat complex
essentially, a focused laser beam is employed to kill the hair
follicles. This is a relatively painless procedure which works
best on patients with a light complexion and dark hair. It is
not recommended if you are deeply tanned. Costs run around
$1,000 for the removal of hair on the face, and anywhere from
$2,000 to $3,000 for hair removal from the pubic area or
legs.
Similar to the Laser treatment above, this FDA approved
Pulsed Laser process uses a pulsed light beam to do away with
the follicles of the hair. This method is especially effective
for eliminating hair from the more sensitive underarms and the
bikini zone. There are no restrictions regarding skin color,
tanning, or color of hair. Costs range from $500 to $2,000 and
up, depending upon the treatment area.
Non permanent hair removal practices include numbers of hair
removal creams, shaving, plucking, waxing, and more irregular
treatments. What a unique contradiction. While millions of
people are investing billions of dollars to grow new hair, make
it soft and shiny, or have it cut that special way, the
remainder of us are laying out our hard earned cash trying to
get rid of it!
