If you suffer from hair growth issues like hypertrichosis or hirsutism, or your hair is growing in areas that you think are unsightly, there are many hair removal choices that are perfect for you. There are essentially two categories of hair removal processes.
'Permament' processes look to eliminate unwanted hair so that it will not regrow. Sometimes these methods turn out to be semi-permanent and need to be repeated over again. Temporary hair removal techniques provide results for a week or two and are contingent on the body's normal hair growth cycle.
A lot of women deal with hair removal as a component of their normal makeup routine. They shave their legs and armpits, pluck their eyebrows, and have their pubic hairs trimmed or taken off to suit today's styles. Some men also shave their body hair for cosmetic reasons, and most men shave their faces and necks unless they are purposely growing a beard, goatee, or moustache. And do not forget that there are medical reasons for eliminating hair and just plain old 'i just wanted to' reasons too.
Electrolysis has been a very popular method and treats each hair follicle individually by injecting a needle into the hair follicle and subjecting it to an electric charge. This treatment can be lengthy based upon the location and size of the area undergoing treatment. This process can be very uncomfortable, and there can be side effects that can include scaring and infection. Costs can run as high as $1,000 to $3,000 for the legs or pubic area.
Laser hair removal is an FDA approved process that is best performed by a certified and licensed professional. Though this process is somewhat complex essentially, a concentrated laser beam is employed to do away with the hair follicles. The treatment is a relatively painless procedure which works best on patients with a fair complexion and dark hair. People with a deep tan should not consider this procedure. Costs run around $1,000 for the removal of hair on the face, and a range from $2,000 to $3,000 for removal of unwanted hair from the pubic area or legs.
Similar to the Laser treatment above, this FDA approved Pulsed Laser procedure utilizes a pulsed light beam to do away with the hair follicles. This newer procedure is highly effective for eliminating hair from the sensitive armpit and the groin or bikini area. This advanced procedure eliminates any restrictions regarding skin color, tanning, or color of hair. Costs run from $500 to $2,000 and up, based upon the treatment area.
Non permanent removal of unwanted hair techniques include numbers of hair removal creams, shaving, plucking, waxing, and more unorthodox treatments. What a unique contradiction. While millions of balding and hair thinning people are committing billions of dollars to nurture new hair, make it soft and managable, or have it cut that special way, the remainder of us are spending our hard earned cash trying to get rid of it!

They're out living the American dream on some damned golf course in Vero Beach, and we're stuck with the jobs and haircuts.' P. J. O'Rourke (1947 - ) |
