There are for all intents and purposes two types of hair
removal procedures. I) 'Permament' routines look to
remove unwanted hair in such a way that it never returns.
Sometimes these procedures can be semi-permanent and have to be
repeated once more. II) Non permanent hair removal techniques
work for for a short period of time and are subject to the
body's normal hair growth cycle.
Most women handle facial hair removal as a
necessary task. Females shave their underarms and legs,
form their eyebrows, and have pubic hair trimmed or taken
off to fit today's designer fashions.
Men to a lesser degree also shave some of their more hairy
locations for cosmetic effect, and almost all men shave their
facial hair unless they are intentionally growing a beard,
goatee, or moustache. Then there are always medical reasons for
getting rid of hair and just plain old 'cuz I felt like it'
reasons as well.
Electrolysis is a standard hair removal
treatment that treats each hair follicle on an individual
basis by inserting a needle into the hair follicle and
subjecting it to an electric charge. This treatment can go on
for months based upon the dimension of the area being
treated.
This process can be very uncomfortable, and there can be
side effects that can include infection and scarring
occasionally. Expenditures for this treatment can be as high as
$1,000 to $3,000 for the legs or pubic area.
Laser hair removal is an FDA approved treatment which should
only be performed by a licensed and trained practitioner.
Though this process is somewhat complex essentially, a focused
laser beam is used to destroy the hair follicles.
The laser hair removal
treatment is a relatively painless procedure that has the
best results on patients who have fair skin and a dark colored
hair. Deeply tanned individuals should not use this treatment.
Expect an outlay of about $1,000 for the removal of hair on the
face, and anywhere from $2,000 to $3,000 for removal of
unwanted hair from the legs and pubic area.
A more advanced laser treatment, this FDA approved Pulsed
Laser treatment utilizes a pulsed light beam to destroy the
follicles of the hair. This newer procedure is highly effective
for getting rid of hair from the underarms and the bikini
zone.
This advanced procedure eliminates any restrictions
regarding skin color, tanning, or hair color. Costs range from
$500 to $2,000 and up, depending upon which area of the body is
treated.
Temporary hair removal techniques include a multitude of
hair removal creams, shaving, plucking, waxing, and more unique
treatments. What a contrast of purpose. While millions of
people are investing billions of dollars to develop new hair,
make it soft and managable, or have it cut just perfect, the
rest of us are spending our hard earned cash seeking to get rid
of it!
